Attractions
Burt is a small, friendly, rural community strategically located on the main thoroughfare which links the Republic of Ireland, with the North of Ireland. The Old Parochial House is located in the R.O.I., approx 3 miles from the border with the north. As a result, Burt annually plays host to thousands of visitors from all over the world as they stop off to sample Burt’s main attraction Grianan of Aileach, an ancient stone fort.

This mysterious ancient ring fort is unquestionably the most interesting antiquity in Inishowen. Built of dry stones, the circular fort commands one of the most breathtaking views to be found anywhere in Ireland, Looking down on a vast panorama of fields, mountains, valleys, rivers and ocean, that covers five counties – its a must see for any visitor.
Burt Castle
The ruins of the 16th century Burt castle can be seen on an imposing hill in the near distance. Although access is now difficult it is still worth stopping to view what was the thief fortress and head quarters of Sir Ciahir o Doherty who was the last Irish chieftain of Inishowen. All that remains today of the original structure is the central tower.
